Born and raised in Barrow (Utqiaġvik), Alaska, Brenda was a fierce advocate and humble leader for the North Slope Iñupiat serving her people and the broader Alaska Native population through a variety of roles. She was the first Alaska Native woman elected to the House of Representatives in the Alaska State Legislature. She also served on the ASRC Board of Directors, the North Slope Borough Assembly, and in many other leadership roles.
