Jim Thorpe (1888–1953) was a legendary Native American athlete, considered one of the greatest of all time for his success in the 1912 Olympics, professional football, and baseball. An Olympic gold medalist in the pentathlon and decathlon, his medals were initially stripped due to eligibility rules but were posthumously reinstated. Thorpe's achievements, including becoming a founding member of the NFL and being named the "Athlete of the Half-Century," continue to symbolize Indigenous excellence and athletic prowess.
