Superintendent Indian Schools
Lawrence, Kansas
Dear Sir:
Yesterday evening 3 Indian boys, one of which is Elmer, arrived at my place. He, i.e., Elmer said they wanted to stay here at my school. I namely have a small Indian school on my farm and Elmer generally was with me. Upon their arrival I informed them that they could not stay with me, and advised them at once to return to Lawrence. They this morning left saying that they would return to Lawrence but I can not tell whether they have done so or not. Had I known whether I had the legal right I should have "locked them up" and kept them until you could have given me instructions what to do. They have stated to the boys here that there are a number of other boys that are contemplating to run away.
I state this that you may take measures accordingly.
Please write to me at once should the boys return what to do with them. I shall not permit them to stay.
Respectfully,
Chr. Krehbiel
