Lawrence June 6, 1887

H.B. Peairs, Esq.

Sir,
I am informed by the Commissioner that charges have been made against you for cruel and brutal treatment of John Yellow Bear by which his leg was broken and that the charges have been substantiated. I am therefore directed to report your discharge upon the [illegible] statement.

Very Respectfully

PLEASE NOTE: This letter was not signed and remained in the papers that Robinson removed from his office upon leaving his position here.

It is unclear whether or not H.B. Peairs was removed from his position as disciplinarian at Haskell Institute. He did, however, go on to serve three terms as Superintendent from 1898-1910, 1917-1927, and 1930-1931.
